Little Critter, Big Lesson

Little Critter, Big Lesson

Nature often reveals God’s faithfulness to me. Just last week, I was walking around my neighborhood one morning when I thought I saw something move on the ground. I stopped to look closer, but nothing was there. Was it just my imagination? Or was something so well hidden that I couldn’t spot it? I slowly crouched down and waited. Sure enough, a little brown lizard or salamander appeared on a tree root. I’ve included a wide shot and a close-up so you can see just how well this little guy blends in! I also attached the close-up so that perhaps you can tell me if it’s a lizard or a salamander. Having spent most of my life in big cities, my nature ID skills aren’t the best. But whatever it is, I’m grateful for the lesson it taught me.  God gave it exactly what it needs to stay safe and thrive. As someone far more valuable in God’s eyes, shouldn’t I also trust that God has given me everything I need?

Matthew 10:29-31

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Whenever I feel my trust in God wavering and doubt and worry creeping in, I often reread and meditate on the following words from

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in his book,  “Thought Conditioners: Powerful Spiritual Phrases that Can Change the Quality of Your Life.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean

not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

This text will help you avoid a nervous breakdown. It will stimulate your recovery if you have had one. A famous neurologist, a specialist in nervous breakdowns often “prescribes” this text for his patients. He writes the words on a card and instructs his patient to commit them to memory and repeat them until they are indelibly printed on the subconscious mind. The cause of much nervous trouble is frustration. And the antidote to frustration is a calm faith, not in your own cleverness, or in hard toil, but in God’s guidance. The cure of frustration is the belief that God will help you obtain your heart’s desire. Trust in God with all your heart, and you will be able to keep on working in health and happiness for long years to come.
